Castle of Ancient Elea

The ruins of Ancient Elaia castle are situated in Paramythia. The race of Thesprotians Eleates lived in this area during ancient times (350 b.C.) and it was the capital of Thesprotia and head of Public Matters of Thesprotians.
Archaeologists have brought to light inside the walls many ruins of buildings, temples, colonnades and a theatre. Inscriptions and coins of the 4th century b.C. have also been discovered. The excavation that has been started since 1985 is continued for making other archaeological treasures known too.
